When consumers choose to support family-owned wineries, they are investing in local jobs, vibrant rural economies, and the long-term sustainability of California agriculture. |
Family-owned wineries strengthen California by contributing to the state’s economic vitality and preserving the character of our wine regions. Their craftsmanship, innovation, and dedication to quality are the foundation of California’s wine identity. As Family Winemakers of California celebrates 36 years of advocacy, we are proud to dedicate the month of August to the families who make the industry thrive and to the consumers whose support keeps these traditions strong. |

Statewide campaign urges support for independent wineries amid shifting consumer trends and economic headwinds.
SACRAMENTO, Calif., June 30, 2026 — Family Winemakers of California (FWC) is proud to launch a digital and social media campaign in August to anchor the second annual Family Winemakers Month. The month-long digital campaign is designed to spotlight the thousands of family-owned wineries that contribute to California's agricultural heritage, economy, tourism, and global reputation for wine excellence.
The digital campaign aims to connect consumers directly with the faces and stories behind family-owned wineries by using the power of social media to drive support.
"Behind every bottle is a family and a story," said GinaLisa Tamayo. "In August, we are bringing these authentic stories directly in front of consumers. In today’s competitive market, standing out requires genuine connection, which is why we’re calling on wineries to amplify their stories all month long, using #FamilyWinemakersMonth. Every reel, photo, and behind-the-scenes look is an invitation for consumers to discover a new wine region, visit a new tasting room, and support the small businesses that make California wine country thrive.”
As wineries navigate rising production costs and changing consumer habits Family Winemakers Month serves as a reminder that consumer choices can make a meaningful difference.
"As a family-owned winery, we wear many hats—from farming and winemaking to hospitality and sales," said Teri Kerns, owner of Ramona Ranch Winery. "Family Winemakers Month is a wonderful opportunity to remind consumers that every purchase directly supports small agricultural businesses like ours."
Family Winemakers Month is a collective effort. This August, California wineries are urged to grab their smartphones, share their authentic stories, and use #FamilyWinemakersMonth to drive digital traffic to their brands. Concurrently, consumers are invited to actively champion these independent producers by visiting tasting rooms, purchasing direct-to-consumer, and amplifying their favorite bottles across social media.
